Bonecrushers struggle to find rhythm, fall to Wolfpack, 36-20
March 28, 2009 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Milwaukee Bonecrushers News Release
After waiting until Week 4 of the 2009 Continental Indoor Football League season to play a home game, the Milwaukee Bonecrushers couldn't seem to find an offensive rhythm, failing to score in the first quarter, posting only six points in the first half and falling to the Wisconsin Wolfpack, 36-20.
The Bonecrushers' lone touchdown in the first half came on a five-yard touchdown run by reigning CIFL Offensive Player of the Week Randy Bell. Bell fought his way around the left end to find the end zone and make the score 14-6.
The Wolfpack offense, which also looked sluggish in the first half, began to find its rhythm in the third quarter. Both teams exchanged touchdowns to start the second half, but the Wolfpack (2-1) would score twice more with their last score coming on a run around right run on a direct snap to Eric Donoval from the trendy "Wildcat" formation.
With a 36-12 lead, however, the Wolfpack's offense sputtered in the fourth quarter. After a Trey Bell interception, Brent Allen was whistled for holding Bonecrushers' defensive end Darius Jones in the end zone, resulting in a Bonecrushers' safety. The Bonecrushers (1-2) would score once more, but could not recover the onside kick, allowing the Wolfpack to run out the clock. With kicker Jake Provan unavailable for personal reasons, the Bonecrushers had Bell performing the kickoffs.
The Wolfpack are now in sole possession of second place in the CIFL's Western Division with the victory. The Bonecrushers fall to third place, ahead of the winless Rock River Raptors.
The Bonecrushers are scheduled to play the Miami Valley Silverbacks next Saturday in Hobart, Ohio. A start time for that game has yet to be announced.
