Bombers Sweep Doubleheader; Next Game Friday

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - The Dubois County Bombers broke a three-game losing streak Monday evening and climbed to second-place as they swept a doubleheader versus the Quincy Gems at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind.

On a day in which both games were seven innings, Dubois County won 11-2 and 9-7.

Taylor Luna won game 1, pitching six innings of one-run ball while striking out four and surrendering only four hits - two of them bunt singles.

"That was one of my better starts this summer," Luna said. "I tried to get out there and compete and give my team a chance to win. I had some nice offense behind me."

The "nice offense" came mostly in a nine-run fourth inning. Dubois County also scored once in the third and once in the fifth.

Only two Bombers were held hitless, and everyone in the Bombers' lineup reached base at least once. Austin Nyman and Dalton Rouleau each drove in three runs, and Chris Tavares hit a solo home run.

Zac Pearman took the loss for the Gems, lasting only three and two-thirds as he allowed seven earned runs. His replacement, Bronson Smith, fared poorly as well, allowing three earned runs while retiring no one.

Craig Bastert pitched the final two and a third for Quincy, allowing only Tavares' solo shot.

Casey Devlin pitched the final inning for Dubois County, surrendering one run.

In game 2, Pichi Torres picked up his second win of the season, allowing seven runs - six earned - as he battled through five and two-thirds innings. Nick Smart held the Bombers' lead at 9-7 as he recorded the final out of the sixth with the trying run on base.

Nick Green pitched a scoreless seventh for his sixth save.

The Bombers scored nine runs through the first four innings, building a 9-3 lead, but they held on as Quincy scored a pair in the fifth and sixth.

Tyler House lost for the Gems, being lifted two batters into the third after allowing six earned runs.

Six different players drove in runs for the Bombers, and five had multiple-hit games.

Dylan Badura (one inning, two earned runs), Seth McWilliams (two innings), Bronson Gagner (two-thirds of an inning) and Jake Walsh (one-third) pitched the final four innings for Quincy

The Prospect League now takes a three-game hiatus for its All-Star Break. The game itself will be held Wednesday, July 11, at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Ill. The Bombers send eight representatives (Bo Ausmus, Alex Britt, Kolin Conner, Landon Curry, Cody Daily, Nick Green, Dalton Rouleau and Ty Simpson), and the Gems send four (Greg Allen, Zach George, Seth McWilliams and Nick Tindall).

The Bombers resume play Friday, July 13, when they host the Danville Dans for a 7:15 p.m. game at League Stadium. That evening is also Hedinger Beverage night, featuring two-dollar Bud and Bud Light drafts and the Bud Girls.
