Bombers Drop 9-2 Game to Cavemen; Head Home Saturday for Doubleheader

HANNIBAL, Mo. - Kris Gardner pitched eight innings of four-hit ball to earn the win in a 9-2 victory for Hannibal Cavemen over the Dubois County Bombers Friday night at Samuel Clemens Field.

Gardner's only blemishes were the two unearned runs he surrendered in the fifth. He also walked three batters and struck out four.

Pichi Torres took the loss for Dubois County, allowing eight runs - seven earned - on nine hits and a walk; he struck out one.

Hannibal's Ian Sikes hit a two-out, three-run double in the third inning that turned a 1-0 Cavemen lead into a 4-0 advantage; he then scored on Ryan Light's RBI single as Hannibal finished a five-run third.

The Cavemen would tack on one run in each of innings four through seven.

The Bombers return home to League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind., for a three-game series against the Western Division-leading Terre Haute Rex that's filled with playoff-quality baseball and spectacular specials.

The first two games are seven-inning affairs that are part of a doubleheader starting Saturday at 6:15 p.m. The gates open at 5:45, and there will be contests and prize giveaways (souvenir baseball and pen to get autographs and two free tickets to the Western Divisional playoff game August 7) as well as two-dollar draft beers all night.

Sunday's 6:15 p.m. game features a two-dollar discount on all tickets.
