Dubois County Bombers News Release

Jeff Zahn busted out of a slump for the Bombers, driving in three runs as Dubois County beat the Hannibal Cavemen 7-3 and held its first losing streak of the season to two games Sunday night at Clemens Field in Hannibal, Mo.

His teammates Landon Curry and Frank Rawdow also knocked in a pair.

Devin Nelson improved to 3-0, going six innings and allowing three earned runs and three hits. He walked three and struck out five.

Kurt Kudrecki relieved Nelson in the seventh, allowing one of his two inherited runners to score to trim the Bombers' lead to 4-3 while getting through that inning.

Adam Brush took the loss for the Cavemen as he threw four innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits and two walks.

Dustin Lawson pitched the fifth and sixth innings for Hannibal, allowing three earned runs on two hits and a walk, and Tyler Watson pitched the seventh and recorded one out in the eighth, giving up three earned runs on one hit and two walks.

His teammates Christian Trent (final two outs of the eighth) and AJ Martin (ninth) finished the game for Hannibal.

Dubois County opened the scoring in the fourth inning after Dalton Rouleau reached on an error, stole second and scored on Zahn's single.

The Bombers tacked on three more in the next inning. Bo Ausmus walked with one out, Rouleau singled, and both came home on a Rawdow triple. Rawdow then scored on Zahn's sacrifice fly to put Dubois County ahead 4-0.

Hannibal got on the board with a pair in the bottom of the sixth when Zach Nichols doubled home Jake Mangler and Jonathan Golden, who had reached on a hit-by-pitch and single, respectively.

After Hannibal reduced the Bombers' lead to one run in the seventh, Dubois County put it away in the top of the eighth.

Zahn led off with a solo home run, and Cody Daily and Scott Windler followed with walks and advanced on a Kolin Conner groundout. Trent replaced Watson on the mound for Hannibal and retired Austin Nyman for the second out but surrendered a double to Landon Curry, driving in Daily and Windler.

Nick Green then pitched another multiple-inning save, holding the Cavemen scoreless through their final six outs.

Dubois County improved to 18-6 and reduced their magic number to clinch a playoff spot to two as they bolstered their lead in the Western Division to five games. Hannibal fell to 13-11. Both teams have the day off tomorrow.

The Bombers travel to Terre Haute, Ind., Tuesday night for a 7:05 game against the Rex, and the Cavemen play the Springfield Sliders that evening at 6:35 p.m.
