London Lightning News Release
(SUDBURY, ON) - All it took was two key players put on the IR, an early injury to Jordan Jensen-Whyte and for Chris Jones to get tossed from the game for the Sudbury Five to barely manage a win over the London Lightning. The Bolts fall to 15-3 on the season after the 118-110 loss Thursday night in Sudbury.
Both Terry Thomas and Mareik Isom were absent from tonight's game putting the Lightning at an immediate disadvantage early, before an injury to starter Jordan Jensen-Whyte really put the pressure on the Lightning's depth. Sudbury wasn't able to take advantage early in the game as both teams finished the first quarter with 25 points apiece. Sudbury was able to pull ahead slightly in the second as they went into the halftime break with a narrow three point lead, 55- 52.
While third quarters haven't been their strong suit this season, London was able to score 32 to the Five's 26, managing to retake the lead after three. Early in the fourth London and Sudbury would trade runs with the Bolts going up by as many as 9 points before a late 16-1 run by the Five would help them seal the victory.
London was led by a career-high 37 points from Jermaine Haley Jr. The 6'8 wing also added 8 rebounds and shot an impressive 14-18 from the field. Cam Forte added a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds off the bench while Marcus Ottey (14 points), Amir Williams (13 points), Jaylon Tate (11 points & 6 assists), and Lance Adams (10 points) rounded out the scoring for the Bolts.
Jeremy Harris was the top man for the Five scoring 29 points on the night but it was Jaylen Bland's impressive fourth quarter outburst that helped the Five pull out the victory, scoring 10 of his 18 in the final frame. Big man Zena Edosomwan added a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds while Evan Harris added 17 off the bench.
The Lightning are off until April 22nd when they play the Windsor Express in game five of their six game road trip.
