The defending North American Hockey League Robertson Cup Champion Bismarck Bobcats start their season this Friday and Saturday night with a pair of Preseason Games against the Aberdeen Wings. The weekend games will be significant in more ways than one. The players will be giving it their all as both teams rosters will be finalized after the weekend action. In addition, it is the first time in the history of the NAHL that a North Dakota team will face a South Dakota club in what is sure to become a great rivalry over the years. They will in fact play for the Titan Machinery cup each season, the winner of which will be based on each season's head to head record.

The Bobcats set out to try to earn a Three Peat Central Division Championship as well as to defend the oldest cup in Junior Hockey, the coveted Robertson Cup. This year's team will take on a whole new look as the Bobcats placed every college eligible player last year. There are only 4 returning regulars from last year's roster. Ryan Faragher, a Dartmouth Division One committed player is returning in net and will be a key factor in the Bobcats ability to defend. He is joined by returning players Brett Bower, Bryce Schmidt, and Emerson Auvenshine all of whom saw action on last year's club. Also, Tyler Richter, a home town favorite who played a few games for the Bobcats last year is hoping to make his mark this season.

While last year's team was one of the oldest teams in the league, this year's Bobcat club will probably be one of the youngest. First year head coach Layne Sedevie has looked at over 400 players this summer in coming down to the last 25 and soon to be 23 players on the roster. There are 30 young men in camp and some difficult decisions will need to be made on Monday as the roster will be set at 25. There could be as many as six high school seniors on the team, the most in recent Bobcat History. "We will be a younger club this year but I believe we have some very skilled players and Adam (Adam Gill, new assistant coach) and I are looking forward to helping them develop and hopefully by season's end be in the hunt for the Championship."

The Bobcats are comprised of some of the best young players from ten different states and one player from Denmark. There are also a half dozen high end players from North Dakota on the team which is more the Bobcats have had in the last ten years. "We don't take North Dakota players for the sake of doing so" says Sedevie, "but we think the player pool this year was exceptional and are excited to have a number of North Dakota players as Bobcats"

The Bobcats play their preseason games this weekend in preparation for the Annual Showcase Tournament in Blaine next week before returning to Bismarck for its home opener against Alexandria, the division favorite on September 24th at the VFW.
