ABERDEEN, SD--The Aberdeen Wings sent the Bobcats to their sixth straight loss with a 3-1 decision at the Odde Ice Center in Aberdeen Saturday night.
The Wings claimed their fifth consecutive win of the series, and in doing so, dropped the Bobcats to third place in the NAHL Central Division. Aberdeen also claimed the Titan Machinery Dakota Cup for the first time in the series history.
"We're not a team right now," said Bobcat head coach Layne Sedevie after the loss. "Everything we're doing right now is getting away from what worked at the beginning of the year."
"It feels a little divided in there," Sedevie continued, explaining the atmosphere in the Bobcat locker room. "We have to come together and play 60 minutes."
Aberdeen pressed the Bobcats throughout the first period, outshooting Bismarck 13-5 in the first 20 minutes. Davis DeKorte created the first Wing score when he was freed from the penalty box and hit with a pass in stride. He then centered for Erik Baskin, who finished with a wrister past Scott Albertoni (Arvada, CO) at 12:48 of the first.
Less than a minute-and-a-half later, Zach Doerring would pivot free at the top of the right circle, with plenty of space, and finish an Austin Heakins pass at 14:16, taking the lead to 2-0.
The Wings expanded the lead to 3-0 on Colin O'Neill's wrap-around at 13:48 of the second. The lone bright spot for the Bobcats came with Harrison Aide's (Bottineau, ND) first goal as a Bobcat, chipping a Matt Anders (Lafayette, CO) crossing pass behind Henry Dill at 14:05 of the second.
With the multi-goal lead, Aberdeen employed their trap in the third, as Bismarck furiously reversed a one-time 13-5 shots disadvantage into a 28-25 advantage. But Dill, perhaps the hottest goaltender in the NAHL at this point in the season, stopped 27 shots after racking up 41 saves in Bismarck during Friday night's win.
The Bobcats host Aberdeen in the final game of the season series Wednesday night. Tickets are available at 222-3300 or online at www.bismarckbobcats.com.
