Tupelo FireAnts News Release
TUPELO, MSâThe Tupelo FireAnts are pleased to announce the re-signing of defensive back/kick returner Bobby Hill for the 2004 National Indoor Football League season.
Hill, originally from Chicago, Illinois, will mark his fourth season with the FireAnts come March.
Hill joined the âAnts for their inaugural season after playing one year at Lakeland College. After a breakout season with the FireAnts 2001, returning 12 kickoff returns for touchdowns, Hill continued building momentum as the seasons progressed. In 2002, he notched 40 returns for 709 yards and also stepped up his performance on the defensive end of the ball, intercepting six passes for 98 yards with one touchdown to his credit.
"I am really excited to return to the FireAnts this season," Hill said. "Coach Hall has a history of winning and he is doing a tremendous job recruiting great players...we are all looking forward to competing for a championship this season."
In 2003, Hill had another successful season with 43 kick returns that amassed 970 yards for six touchdowns. For his efforts, Hill was named the 2003 NIFL Atlantic Conference Most Valuable Player for Special Teams.
"Bobby Hill is one of the most exciting players in this league on special teams to watch and is also one of the most popular FireAnts players in the community, without a doubt," Head Coach Bobby Hall said. "Hill is probably one of the best kick returners out there in 8 or 11 man football and also has a great ability to make the big plays."
The FireAnts have signed five players to date, including Joe Gunn, Pig Prather, Patrick Garth, Rico McDonald and now Bobby Hill to the 2004 lineup.
