Vancouver Whitecaps News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi has been selected to carry the Olympic Flame on Friday, February 12 - the final day of the historic Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay.
"The Olympics in Vancouver is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and to be selected as part of the Torch Relay is a true honour," said Lenarduzzi. "The fact that I am from Vancouver, have been involved in the local sports scene for nearly four decades, and a former Olympian, makes it that much more special."
Lenarduzzi will accept the Olympic Flame on Great Northern Way near Vancouver's St. Francis Xavier School around 12:20 p.m. PT on Friday.
The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay began in Canada on October 30, 2009, in Victoria, BC, and will conclude at the Opening Ceremony for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games on February 12.
When the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay arrives at BC Place for the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the Olympic Flame will have travelled to over 1,000 communities and places of interest throughout Canada. The 45,000-kilometre torch relay, which has included 12,000 people as Olympic Torchbearers, is the longest in history to be contained within the host Olympic country.
