Butler, PA - June 3, 2014 - Butler pitcher Denis Lyman has been named the Prospect League's Pitcher of the Week for the opening week of the 2014 season.
Lyman shutdown the Lorain County Ironmen on Sunday afternoon, allowing only two singles and two walks over eight shutout innings. He struck out six Ironmen and did not allow a base runner to move past first base.
Butler won the game 6-0 to extend their winning streak to four games and move into first place in the Prospect League's Eastern Division.
A sophomore, Lyman threw 13 innings for Herkimer Community College this spring, where he struck out 14 and walked six, to the tune of a 4.85 ERA. The Generals finished in third place in this year's NJCAA DIII World Series.
Manuel DeJesus, of the Terre Haute Rex and Wabash Valley College, was named Player of the Week for his 10-for-22 (.455/.500/.591) performance with the bat that included three doubles, five RBIs, and eight runs scored.
The BlueSox will face Chillicothe on Tuesday night before returning home to Butler for games on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. All three begin at 6:35pm.
