
Blues Don't Slow Mavericks

The Southeast Texas Mavericks again for a second straight game opened the game in dominating fashion with five unanswered baskets to give them a 10-0 lead. From their the Mavs cruised behind strong all-around performances from Alex Sanders, Jermaine Blackburn, and Josh Pace. Blackburn and Pace each scored two baskets and Sanders cleared the glass to start the Mavs running game. At the end of one period of play the Mavericks led by 24 points 40-16.
In the second quarter behind back-up point guard Kenny Dawkins and long-range shooter Currye Todd the Mavs moved out to a 40 point lead. The Mavericks played inspired defense and made few offensive mistakes as they flowed in every phase of the game all during the first half. SETX went in up at half-time 72-33.
The Blues opened the second half on an 11-4 run. But after a Mavericks time-out the Mavs found their groove again to start off once again where they left off in the first half. The Blues battled the Mavericks in the 3rd quarter, but finished the quarter down 101-61.
The Mavericks controlled the final quarter as they emptied the bench to cruise to a 45 point victory 137-92.
MAVS SCORERS:
The Maverick again showed balanced scoring by placing nine players in double figures. Currye Todd and Josh Pace each scored 18 points to lead the Mavs scorers. Jon Rogers followed up with 17 points. Mike Crain chipped in 15 points. Kenny Dawkins and DeSean White each added 14 points each. Jermaine Blackburn contributed 12 points. DeRon Rutledge had 11 points. Alex Sanders had his most complete game of the season for the Mavericks with 8 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Daniel Price led Mississippi with 21 points and Jarell Jones followed up with 17 points.
MAVS SUPERLATIVES:
The Mavericks are now 14-1 on the season at home and moved their home record at Ford Arena in two seasons to 31-2. That includes a 25 game winning streak at FA that ended earlier this month.
The Mavericks now are 46-5 in the past two seasons in the ABA.
The Mavs are averaging 142.6 points per game offensively in their last five games, while giving up 92.6 points per game for a winning margin of 50.0 points per game.
The Mavs had a season low 12 turnovers in the game and had 34 team assist.
The Mavericks again had 71 team rebounds and out-rebounded Mississippi by 30 rebounds.
MAVS NEXT GAME:
The Mavericks will be off for the remainder of this week before hitting the road next week as they will travel to Columbus, GA to take on Columbus Life on Thursday night, February 18th and the Mississippi Blues in Gulfport, MS on Sunday, February 21st.
