Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced that they will be the first team to implement the 'LaRoche Rule' during the 2016 season. This initiative stems from the recent controversy between the Chicago White Sox and infielder Adam LaRoche, who abruptly retired when the Sox tried to limit the amount of time his son could spend with the team.
"We are implementing this rule to show our support for Adam LaRoche's recent decision," says Bluefish General Manager Jamie Toole. "The Bluefish organization strongly values family and community, so we wanted to extend those values to our players and the rest of the Atlantic League as well."
With this new rule in place, all Bluefish and visiting players who wish to bring their children into the clubhouse may do so with no limitations. In addition, the players' children are allowed to be on field during pre-game warm ups and drills and shag balls during batting practice. The players' children are also invited to watch TV and play video games in the clubhouse, in an ode to the team's slogan for the 2016 season, "Game On."
Adam LaRoche's brother, Andy, plays for the Sugar Land Skeeters, a fellow Atlantic League team. The Bluefish particularly ensure that Andy's and the rest of the Skeeters' families feel welcome at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
