Bluefish Make Blockbuster Trade to Acquire 2015 ALBP Batting Champion

Bridgeport, Conn. -Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced the acquisition of infielder Sean Burroughs. The former Bluefish comes to Bridgeport in a trade with the Long Island Ducks for pitcher D.J. Mitchell.

"I've played with Sean here in Bridgeport for a few years," says Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez. "His energy is one of a kind, and I'm really looking forward to having him back on the team."

Sean Burroughs returns to the Bluefish during his third season in the Atlantic League and 15th of professional baseball. The former Major Leaguer began the 2016 season with the Long Island Ducks, also of the Atlantic League, where he played in 42 games and racked up a .281 batting average with nine RBI and 18 runs scored. After being traded to the Ducks midway through the 2015 campaign, Burroughs finished the season with a .340 batting average, the highest overall in the Atlantic League. Sean made his Atlantic League debut with the 'Fish in 2014. That year, he hit .344 with 25 RBI and 34 runs scored in 73 games.

The 34-year-old has played seven years in the big leagues, appearing with the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks and Minnesota Twins. In 528 Major League games, he has compiled a solid .278 batting average with 187 runs scored, 68 doubles, 12 triples, 12 home runs and 143 RBI.

Sean, the son of former Major Leaguer Jeff Burroughs, began his career with the San Diego Padres organization after being selected in the first round (ninth overall) of the 1998 MLB Draft. He was also named the MVP of the 2000 MLB Futures Game.

Over the course of 826 minor league contests, the veteran has comprised a .312 batting average with 31 home runs, 376 RBI, and 372 runs scored.
