Bluefish Finalize 2016 Opening Day Roster

(Bridgeport, Conn.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the return of pitcher Scott Shuman. The 'Fish have also signed infielder Carlos Sosa and catcher Yefry Castillo, who attended the team's Open Player Tryout on April 16.

"We are happy to have Scott back in our bullpen this season," says Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez. "Carlos and Yefry impressed us during the tryout, so we believe they can also help out the ballclub."

Scott Shuman returns to Bridgeport for his second season in the Atlantic League and seventh of professional baseball. Last year with the 'Fish, he made 24 mound appearances, collecting a 2.49 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. The 28-year-old made his professional debut after he was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 19th round of the 2009 MLB draft out of Auburn University. He spent four seasons within the Rays organization, reaching as high as the Double-A level in 2012 and 2013. In 185 career minor league games, Scott owns a 4.56 ERA with 19 saves and 358 strikeouts in 232.2 innings of work.

Carlos Sosa joins the Bluefish for his 13th season of professional baseball and third in the Atlantic League. He last played in 2012 with San Antonio (Double-A, San Diego) of the Texas League and Sugar Land of the independent Atlantic League. In 38 combined games, he collected two home runs, six RBI and 11 runs scored. The 34-year-old began his professional career in 2001 after the San Francisco Giants signed him as an undrafted free agent. He spent eight seasons in the Giants organization, before joining Worcester of the independent Can-Am League in 2009. He made his Atlantic League debut in 2011 with the Road Warriors. Over the course of 1,061 games, Sosa owns a .280 batting average with 134 home runs, 600 RBI and 576 runs scored.

Yefry Castillo makes his way to Bridgeport for his fifth season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. Last year, the catcher played with Garden State of the independent Can-Am League. In 53 games, he collected a .300 batting average with two home runs, 21 RBI and 24 runs scored. The 25-year-old began his professional career in 2010 with Spokane (Low-A, Texas Rangers) of the Northwest League. He spent three seasons with the Rangers organization, reaching the High-A level in 2012. Over the course of 196 games, Castillo owns a .278 batting average with five home runs, 84 RBI and 77 runs scored.
