Bluefish Defeat University of Bridgeport, 6-1

Bridgeport, Conn., April 30, 2003 -- The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the University of Bridgeport 6-1 on Wednesday evening in an exhibition game at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Bluefish used the exhibition game to prepare for the 2003 season, which begins tomorrow on the road against Rickey Henderson and the Newark Bears.

The Bluefish seized control of the game after batting around and scoring five runs in the fourth inning. Dee Jenkins led off the inning with a double and later scored on a Rolo Avila (2-for-2, 2R, 2SB) single. After Avila stole second he scored on a Tony Rodriguez single. Ben Candelaria then walked and later scored along with Rodriguez on a two-run double from Jose Amado (2-for-2, 3RBI). Tony Mota rounded out the scoring during the inning by driving in Amado with a single.

The Bluefish jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI-single from Amado, scoring Avila who was hit by a pitch to lead off the game. The University of Bridgeport briefly tied the game in the fourth inning on a RBI-double from Chris Cadrin, scoring Christian Chung who singled to center field. Chung had two hits for the University of Bridgeport.

Brady Raggio started the game for the Bluefish, going 4.0 innings while allowing one run on three hits. Angel Miranda, Keith Davis and Terrence Hill each worked a scoreless inning of relief out of the bullpen for the Bluefish.
