Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

Bridgeport, Conn., February 4, 2003 -- The Bridgeport Bluefish announced today that Duffy Dyer will return for his third season as manager of the Bridgeport Bluefish. In his two years with the team (2001-02), Dyer has led the Bluefish to back-to-back winning seasons while carrying on the winning tradition of the ball club.

In 2002, he improved his winning percentage with Bridgeport to .544 (137-115). Under his direction, the Bluefish also captured the North Division Titles in both the first and second halves of the season while tying for the league lead in victories (71-55). The 2002 season marked Dyer 's first appearance in the Atlantic League Playoffs. His Bluefish won the North Division Series by virtue of defeating the Camden Riversharks, two games to one in the best-of-three series. Bridgeport then advanced to the Championship Series for the first time in his tenure as manager and the third time in team history. In the Championship Series the successful season for the Bluefish ended with a series sweep by the Newark Bears. Dyer joined the Bluefish for the 2001 season when he managed the team to a record of 66-60. He was named the second manager in Bluefish history on February 6, 2001, replacing Willie Upshaw.

Dyer brings valuable experience to the Bluefish, having been a Major League player, manager and coach. His professional baseball career began after being selected in the first round of the 1966 supplemental draft by the New York Mets. His Major League playing career spanned 14 seasons, from 1968 to 1981. Dyer was a catcher on the 1969 Mets World Championship team as well as a member of the 1973 National League Championship Mets. He moved on to Pittsburgh, where played four years for the Pirates, winning the National League Eastern Division Championship in 1975. Dyer was a member of the Montreal Expos in 1979 before ending his playing career with Detroit Tigers in 1981.

During the off-season Dyer resides in Scottsdale, Arizona with his wife and four children. He will join the Bluefish in Bridgeport during the month of April prior to Atlantic League Spring Training.
