Bluefish Announce 2003 Schedule

November 4, 2002 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

Bridgeport, Conn., November 4, 2002 – The Northern Division Champion Bridgeport Bluefish today released the team's 2003 schedule and has now placed full season tickets, mini-plans and group packages on sale for the upcoming season. The home portion of the Bluefish schedule is slated to begin against the Atlantic City Surf on Tuesday, May 6 at 4:05 p.m. The following day, Wednesday, May 7, the Bluefish will continue the series with a special noon start for "Kid's Opening Day." The opening series is part of a fifteen game homestand in May that includes other games versus Atlantic League opponents such as Camden, Pennsylvania, Nashua and Somerset.

"The Bluefish organization has strived to make affordable family entertainment the benchmark of our success since the inaugural 1998 season," said Bridgeport Bluefish General Manager Charlie Dowd. "We hope that families and our young fans will be more responsive to the 6:35 p.m. evening start-time throughout the upcoming season. Coupled with the addition of enhanced promotions and winning Bluefish baseball we expect to make the 2003 season our best campaign yet."

In an effort to make Bluefish baseball more family friendly, the organization has set all evening game times for 6:35 p.m. In previous seasons Bridgeport has only used the 6:35 p.m. starts in May and September while playing at 7:05 p.m. during the peak summer months of June, July and August. Recognizing the need to accommodate the overwhelming amounts of school and camp groups who attend the annual school and camps days, the Bluefish have also added two additional noon starts to the 2003 schedule. The Bluefish will offer two noon starts on Wednesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 21 for schools and two noon games on Wednesday, July 16 and Monday, July 28 for camps.

Full season tickets to all 72 Bluefish 2003 home games and partial season ticket plans (35, 16, and eight game plans) are currently available. The Bluefish are also selling flex-books that contain ten open-ended coupons that can be redeemed for Loge Box Seating. Individual game tickets will go on sale during the month of April in 2003. Individual ticket prices for the 2003 season are as follows: Field Box $12; Loge Box $9; Reserved $6. Children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over are admitted for $3 in the Reserved Seats. Call the ticket office at 203-345-4800 ext. 150 for more information.

The Bluefish are making group outings more affordable opening up the group rate discount of one dollar off per ticket for all dates on the 2003 schedule. This change marks the first time that weekend dates have been included in the group sales discounting. Reservations are also being accepted for the Peoples Bank Marina, fundraisers and birthday parties at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Call the group sales department at 203-345-4800 ext. 107 for more information.

During the 2003 season, each team in the Atlantic League will play 126 games, same as in 2002. The Pennsylvania Road Warriors, again operated by the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, will travel throughout the season while playing strictly on the road. Each of the other seven Atlantic League teams will play 72 home games and 54 road games to accommodate the Road Warriors.

In 2002, the Bluefish continued their winning brand of baseball by advancing to the playoffs for the fourth time in five years by virtue of winning both regular season halves in the Northern Division. Bridgeport then defeated the Camden Riversharks two games to one in the best-of-three Northern Division Championship Series. The series propelled the Bluefish in to the Atlantic League Championship for the third time in franchise history. In the Championship series the Bluefish fell to the Newark Bears three games to none.

The Bluefish will not have to wait long to avenge their Championship Series defeat to the Newark Bears. Bridgeport will open the season on the road for only the second time in team history on Thursday, May 1 when they travel to square off against the 2002 Atlantic League Champion Bears. The Bluefish also played the Bears in the first-game ever played at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on May 21, 1998. Bridgeport posted an 8-4 win in that game and has since never lost on Opening Day.
