Bluefield Snaps Mariners Win Streak

July 11, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski, VA- The Bluefield Blue Jays were able to snap Pulaski's five game win streak, defeating them 4-2 Wednesday night at Calfee Park.

Bluefield's LHP Deivy Estrada got the start for the Blue Jays, pitching six innings of two hit baseball, allowing no runs and striking out two while picking up his second win of the year. Estrada had the M's number, as he managed to retire the first 12 batters he faced in order.

As a team, the M's produced only four hits and drew just one walk on the night. Pulaski's first hit did not come until the fifth inning when right-fielder Reggie Lawson lined a frozen rope into center field.

Despite being the "hard-luck loser" and giving up a homerun to the first batter of the game, M's starter Charles Kaalekahi (1-1) posted a solid outing. Kaalekahi threw five innings while striking out four, walking four, and giving up only three hits.

The Mariners hit rough waters in the top of the sixth when the Blue Jays put up three runs on three hits and two Pulaski errors giving them the 4-0 lead. The inning would prove to be enough for Bluefield's eighth win of the season.

Pulaski will play Bluefield again tomorrow night, 7 p.m., for the second game of their three game series.
