BlueClaws Pitcher Jarred Cosart Headed to Futures Game

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Current BlueClaws pitcher Jarred Cosart and 2008 BlueClaws OF Domonic Brown will represent the United States in MLB's annual Futures Game, this year held July 11th in Anaheim, site of the MLB All-Star game two days later.

They become the ninth and tenth BlueClaws to earn a spot in the Futures Game. Cosart joins Carlos Carrasco (2006) and Adrian Cardenas (2007) as the third BlueClaw to reach the Futures Game in the season he played for the BlueClaws.

Cosart, who just turned 20 on May 25th, was a 38th round pick from League City, Texas in 2008. He went 7-2, 3.44 for the BlueClaws in the first half and entered the year as the 8th ranked prospect in the system per Baseball America. He went 4-1, 3.12 over his final seven starts, helping the BlueClaws win the first-half championship.

He is third in the South Atlantic League in strikeouts with 77.

Brown hit .291 with nine home runs with the BlueClaws in 2008 after being drafted in the 20th round of the 2006 draft. This year, he is batting .317-13-43 with Double-A Reading and has been the top ranked prospect in the system for the last two seasons.

He is currently fourth in the Eastern League in batting average and home runs and leads the league in slugging percentage (.585).

They were the only two Phillies selected as organization's cannot have more than two representatives.

Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America, USA Baseball and the 30 Major League Baseball Clubs, selected the 25-man rosters for each club.
