Bluecats take on Houma in Bayou Country

May 20, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Evansville BlueCats News Release

For the 2nd straight year, the Evansville Bluecats will pack up and travel to southern Louisiana to go up against the Atlantic South division leading Houma Bayou Bucks. The 3-4 Bluecats will be looking to snap the Bayou Bucks' 7-game win streak and get back to .500 after a disappointing loss to the Atlantic City Card Sharks last week at home.

The match-up between Evansville and Houma features a classic battle between offense & defense as the Bluecats take their 6th ranked offense up against the NIFL's 5th ranked defense. Both teams deploy triple offensive threats that are among the league's leaders at the skilled positions with QB Ramon Robinson, RB Michael Cosey and WR John Gordon from the Bluecats and QB Doug Coleman, RB Jarvis Dunn and WR Kevin Heard from the Bucks. Look for Cosey (5th in points, TD and rushing yards) and Dunn (6th in rushing yards) to be a big part of both team's game plans as they go up against the 25th (Bluecats) and 23rd ranked (Bucks) rushing defenses in the NIFL.

One of the biggest keys to victory for the Bluecats will be how they protect the football. In 3 wins this season, the ‘Cats have 0 turnovers and are +4 in turnover margin. In contrast, in 4 losses they have committed 14 turnovers and have a –6 turnover margin. Also, newcomer Brandon Kukla will look to fill in for center Bruce Jackson (Season IR – torn bicep) and Matt Jackson will look to backup his impressive professional debut (1 INT & 6.5 tackles) in relief of cornerback Roland Jackson (Season IR – Shoulder).

Tune in for all the play-by-play this Saturday, May 22nd on GOLD WYNG 95 (94.9 FM) or on the worldwide web at www.evansvillebluecats.com or www.robertstadium.com. The pre-game show will begin at 6:30 PM with kickoff at 7:00 PM CDT. For more information or questions about upcoming games or the May 29th Lexington fan bus call the Bluecats office at 812-491-9401.
