Evansville BlueCats News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats are pleased to announce the signings of two new linemen for the 2006 season.
Leading off the group is 6'4" 280 lbs. offensive lineman, Rick Schilb. Schilb was a four-year starter on the offensive line at McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois, where he helped anchor an offensive line that produced the second best rushing attack in the NAIA each of the past two seasons.
During his senior season in 2005, Schilb was named first team All-American by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette, and second team NAIA All-American. The McKendree Bearcats averaged 279.5 rushing yards per game and went 6-1 in the Mid-States Football Midwest League to claim a share of the league championship. Schilb and the Bearcats qualified for the NAIA Football Championship Series during each of Schilb's four seasons with the team.
Schilb is originally from Bone Gap, Illinois, and attended Edwards County High School.
Also signing with the BlueCats is 6'4" 340 lbs. lineman Federico Samuel. Samuel is originally from Panama City, Panama, and grew up in Los Angeles. He attended Hamilton High School in Culver City California where he played football for two seasons at linebacker. He was a team captain and an all-city linebacker as a senior, leading the team with 137 tackles. He went on to play at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, where he anchored the conferences #1 ranked defense on their way to a conference championship.
He transferred and played defensive tackle and defensive end for Southwest Missouri State in 2002 and 2003. In 2002 he played in all eleven games. He was limited by an injury during his senior season in 2003.
He has one season of previous professional experience, playing for the San Angelo Stampede in 2004. He played on the defensive line until an injury to the Stampede's starting center forced him to switch to center for the final 4 games of the season.
