Valley Blue Sox News Release

It has not taken long for the Blue Sox to conjure up another winning streak following their previous season-best five-game streak, which was broken by the Mystic Schooners earlier this week, as Holyoke continued to extend its lead in the Western Division with an 8-0 victory against Danbury on Sunday.

Despite the venue being different, with the game in Danbury, CT, the result was the same for the Blue Sox (8-2)the second time around against the Danbury Westerners - a dominating victory.

Both pitchers began the game well until the third inning when the Blue Sox jumped on Danbury pitcher Nick Williams, who got the loss, scoring four runs in the inning alone.

With the bases loaded, Blue Sox first baseman Trey Mancini drove in Chris McGowanfor the first run of the game, followed by a bases-loaded walk to Tom Murphy driving in Frank DeScio to give Holyoke a 2-0 lead.

Blue Sox newcomer Alex Sherrod, from USC, had himself a nice debut in the NECBL going 2-for-5 driving in two runs on a RBI single in the third inning to cap off another offensive outburst for Holyoke giving the Blue Sox a 4-0 lead.

Holyoke starting pitcher Chris Capper, the winning pitcher, cruised for the rest of the way until his night was done in the seventh inning, Capper finished his outing going six innings, giving up four hits and striking out nine Westerners.

The Westerners (4-4)had no answer for any of the Blue Sox pitchers all night as following Capper's performance only three more hits would be given up and no runs crossed the plate to complete the shutout.

The Blue Sox added a run in the sixth inning to take a 5-0 lead, but the icing would be put on top of the cake in the ninth inning with a solo home run by Sam Eberle and a double by Tom Murphy, allowing two unearned runs to score thanks to an error, bringing the final score to 8-0.

Holyoke has two days off before hitting the road again to take on the Sanford Mainers on Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. start.
