Blue Ducks season opens next weekend

June 6, 2005 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Brevard Blue Ducks News Release

Melbourne, FL – Thunder played an important part of the Blue Ducks season last year due to the popularity – and effectiveness – of their most popular giveaway – Thunderstix. The tubular blow-up noisemakers that fans clap together to make loud thunderous sounds not only created a fun atmosphere for Brevard fans, but made for a tremendous home court advantage for the Ducks as the team posted the majority of its victories on nights the noisemakers were given out to fans.

Well, Thunderstix Nights are back, but if the theme of last year's Blue Ducks season was Thunder, then the theme of this season – which opens Friday, June 10th - might have to be Rolling Thunder, as the Blue Ducks announced a giveaway on a grander scale – a 2005 street-legal "Mini Chopper" – courtesy of Brevard Scooters, which will be given away to one lucky fan this season.

Fans will be able to fill out entry forms to win the red-white-and-blue, American flag-themed bike. Each game, the Blue Ducks will pick 5 fans as finalists and invite them back to the last game of the season. There the finalists will gather and one lucky fan will be randomly selected and named the winner of the "custom" cycle.

"It has never been more rewarding to attend a Blue Ducks game," commented team owner, Mike Richman. "We have always been a tremendous entertainment value, offering a great evening of affordable fun for families. They get to see a great game, get a chance to meet and greet our players and coaches, see the Blue Chicks, get great giveaways and prizes and now have the chance to win a really great prize. Add to that, our new lower ticket and concession prices and you can't beat the value we offer for a night out."

There will be four Thunderstix nights this season, starting with the season opener. The first 250 kids attending each game will receive a free pair of the noisemakers.

Another, environmentally-driven promotional night takes place on Tuesday, June 14th when the Blue Ducks and BellSouth host The Real Yellow Pages from BellSouth Recycle Night. Any fan who brings their old Yellow Pages phone book to the game for recycling gets a half-price ticket and a free gift – courtesy of The Real Yellow Pages from BellSouth. In addition, special Real Yellow Pages from BellSouth prizes are planned for the evening.

On Father's Day – Sunday June 19th – the Blue Ducks will host all dads for FREE. It will be the perfect opportunity to take your dad to the game and enjoy a Sunday of Blue Ducks basketball.

On Friday, June 24th, the Blue Ducks will host popular ESPN radio announcer, Terry Bowden on ESPN Night. The team will also give away Thunderstix that evening.
