Blue Ducks Bland wins Rookie of the Week

Brevard Blue Ducks News Release

Melbourne, FL – Ho-hum. Another week, another award for Tony Bland.

It's almost getting to sound a little boring to some, but definitely not to Tony Bland or his Brevard Blue Ducks teammates, as the USBL announced that the 6-5 guard from Syracuse was just named the "Rookie of the Week" for the fourth consecutive week.

Bland, who's received offers from several NBA teams to attend their summer camps, netted the award even though he only played one game this past week. But his effort – a triple-double in the Ducks 124-99 loss to St. Louis - was enough to garner him the award.

Bland had 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 42 minutes during the Blue Ducks last home game of the year Sunday. He is Brevard's leading scorer at 19.5 PPG and is 6th in the league in assists with 5.2 per game.

"He's having an incredible year," remarked Blue Ducks owner, Mike Richman. "But what's as important to us is that as good as he is on the court, he's as good a person off the court. We're delighted to help develop the career of such a wonderful person."

DUCK NOTES: Brevard ends the 2004 season with four road games – tonight in Brooklyn, Thursday and Friday in Pennsylvania and Saturday in Westchester.
