Legend goes Undefeated at Home for Second Straight Season
June 15, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL) News Release
MILFORD, CT â The United States Basketball League, Inc. (USBL) had another long standing record being broken last night, and another in jeopardy tonight. Last night, June 14th, the Dodge City Legend finished the season undefeated at home for the second consecutive year, going 15-0 on the season. The Legend went 18-0 last season as the home team, including the Post-Season Festival. The last time the Legend were defeated at home was on June 23, 2002 by the Kansas Cagerz by the score of 110-107. Rob Dye and Immanuel McElroy are the only players who have been apart of every home win in the streak. Dale Osbourne was an assistant coach last season for the Legend before taking over as Legend head coaching this season.
The Legend has won 33 consecutive home contests and is also on a 34 game winning streak at the Dodge City Civic Center. The previous record for most consecutive home wins was the 1995-1996 Florida Sharks, coached by former NBA head coach Eric Musselman, who won 31 consecutive home games. Musselman's Sharks also own the longest winning streak title, winning 15 games in a row twice, in 1995 and 1996. The Legend have tied that mark last night with a 110-91 victory over the Cedar Rapids River Raiders, and are looking to break another long time record tonight when the face their instate rival, the Kansas Cagerz.
"What the Dodge City Legend team has been able to do the past two seasons is extraordinary. To go undefeated at home for two seasons is an outstanding achievement. My congratulations go out to the Legend ownership group, the Legend staff, and especially to the Legend players and coaching staff for a job well done," stated USBL Founder and Commissioner Daniel T. Meisenheimer III.
