Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(BAKERSFIELD, CA) - Unusually high winds in Kern County led to the suspension of Sunday's game between the JetHawks and the Bakersfield Blaze at Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield. Dirt, dust, and rocks from the adjacent parking lot were hurtled onto the field by wind gusts of more than 40 MPH. By the second inning, the California League umpiring crew deemed the conditions as unplayable and suspended the game. The JetHawks were up 2-1 at the time thanks to RBI singles by Mark Ori and David Flores.
It is unknown at the current time whether the game will be resumed at a future date. Complicating factors are that the JetHawks do not return to Bakersfield the rest of the season and that the Blaze has only one visit to Lancaster, one that takes place in the second half. If the game has no post-season implications, it may not be resumed.
The JetHawks return to Lancaster for the home opener Monday night against Lake Elsinore. Shane Wolf starts for Lancaster, taking on Jorge Reyes of the Storm. The game begins at 7:00 with the pre-game show scheduled to start at 6:45 PM online at JetHawks.com/csn and on radio at NewsTalk 1380 AM.
The first 1,500 fans in attendance for Opening Night will receive a free JetHawks magnet schedule, presented by the Antelope Valley Press. It is also a Feed Your Face Monday, with a ticket package that includes all-you-can-eat hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, and peanuts available for just $10.
The 2010 season marks the 15th anniversary of professional baseball in the Antelope Valley, and since its inaugural game in 1996, The Hangar has produced more than 90 Major Leaguers and inducted 25 members into The JetHawks Hall of Fame.
