Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - The JetHawks offense had its best game of the young season Saturday night. Unfortunately, it came amidst the first struggles for the pitching staff and defense. Bakersfield scored four times in the fourth inning to erase a Lancaster lead and beat the JetHawks 8-5. Lancaster has lost each of the first three games of the season.

The offense got off to a good start for the JetHawks. Already with a 1-0 lead in the second, Jay Austin's double drove in two runs to give Lancaster its biggest lead of the season thus far. The Blaze scored once in the second, but the JetHawks got the run right back in the third inning on a RBI single by Rayner Contreras.

Making his first start at the Advanced-A level, Dallas Keuchel retired the first five batters he saw. He allowed a run in the second and pitched out of trouble in the third, but could not escape in the fourth. He gave up the three tying runs before the Blaze took the lead with a double off JetHawks reliever Ashton Mowdy.

The JetHawks had some opportunities to rally. They scored once in the fifth inning on a Federico Hernandez single but left the bases loaded. They put two men on in the ninth inning, but a pair of Lancaster errors in the eighth had by that time put the Blaze ahead by three and the JetHawks were unable to score.

Lancaster has lost at least the first two games of each of the last four seasons and have dropped five consecutive games in Bakersfield.

Freddy Parejo tallied three hits for the JetHawks and has hit safely in all three games. Federico Hernandez added two hits.

The JetHawks finish the road trip Sunday afternoon against the Blaze. Brad Dydalewicz starts for Lancaster, taking on Bakersfield's Kennil Gomez. The game begins at 1:15 with the pre-game show scheduled to start at 1 PM online at JetHawks.com/csn and on radio at NewsTalk 1380 AM.
