FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs dropped a heartbreaker to the Lexington County Blowfish, 4-0 on Saturday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.
The Blowfish scored a run in the first inning on a steal of home by J.D. Crowe to take a 1-0 lead, and would tack on insurance runs in the sixth and ninth innings.
Offensively, Mike Deese (Jr./The Citadel) went 2-2 with a double and was hit by a pitch twice. Mitch Roman (Jr./Wright State) collected a first inning single to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
The SwampDogs (11-14) are back in action Sunday as they travel to take on the Holly Springs Salamanders at 5:05 pm.
The Fayetteville SwampDogs are in their 15th season playing in the Coastal Plain League. The SwampDogs are one of the most successful franchises in the league's history, making the Petitt Cup Playoffs eight times in the past 10 seasons, reaching the championship round three times. The SwampDogs boast 90 alumni taken in the draft and have produced six players who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball including slugger Mark Reynolds and David Aardsma.
