Bloomington Edge News Release
Bloomington, IL. - The Bloomington Edge is pleased to share details regarding their first game this summer and information about a downtown block party and concert to benefit Autism awareness. The Edge will go head to head with the Rockford Rams to kick off the new summer season on July 7th, 2018 at Grossinger Motors Arena. The game will have a special start time of 5pm.
The Edge has a full day of fun activities planned for fans to enjoy in downtown Bloomington beginning at 11:00am. Front Street will be closed to traffic between Madison Street and Lee Street to make room for family friendly activities. Starting at 1pm there will be a hamburger cook-off to determine once and for all who makes the best burger in Blono.
Starting at 2pm there will be a singing competition modeled after the hit television show "American Idol". Singers will have the opportunity to perform on stage in front of the crowd and three judges. The three singers with the highest score will have the opportunity to sing at half time of the Bloomington Edge which starts at 5pm that evening.
At the conclusion of the game, fans will be invited to a live post game concert also on Front Street. There is no charge to attend the block party or the concert, but donations will be accepted to benefit Friends of the Autism Place, a Bloomington Edge charity partner.
Bloomington Edge head coach John Johnson said he is thrilled that the team is returning to the field.
"I'm excited to be settled and start our summer season. We're really looking forward to playing the Rockford Rams, they're a great team and it will be a fun game."
When asked how his players were feeling about the game, Rockford Rams' head coach Martell English said "My players are excited to come down and play such a prestigious organization." He was eager to showcase running back Tre Hatchet (#8), specifically because of the great attributes he brings to the Rams.
Coach English also mentioned corner Corey Jefferson (#1), who he described as "a tall, lanky guy with great athletic abilities" and receiver Justin Opengo (#6) who has experience with indoor football teams as a former player for the Rockford Raptors.
