Quad City Mallards News Release
Bloomington, Ill. (January 19, 2010) - Jon Booras had a hat trick and one assist on Tuesday night to propel the host Bloomington PrairieThunder to a 7-3 win over the Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Bloomington was on the power play when Jason Lepine's blue line blast opened the scoring midway through the first period. Booras's backhander doubled the lead with just over two minutes left in the first.
Obi Aduba's long range drive got the Mallards on the scoreboard for the first time at 10:09 of the second period, but the PrairieThunder would reestablish the two goal lead just 27 seconds later when Brett Holmberg buried Bill Bagron's centering pass. At 15:59 of the second Booras made it 4-1 when he drove home his second of the night from the top of the left wing circle.
Brandon Marino's breakaway power play goal cut the gap to 4-2 at 17:53 of the second, but the Prairie Thunder would break the game open with three straight third period goals against Kyle Jones, who replaced starting goaltender Jerad Kauffman in the Mallard net at the beginning of the third. Bloomington was shorthanded when Booras completed his hat trick 22 seconds into the third by firing the puck in off Jones's shoulder. At 10:29 of the third the margin stretched to 6-2 when Zach Pearson's centering pass deflected in off a Mallard stick. The Mallards created a 6-on-4 advantage by emptying the net after going on the power play with just under six minutes remaining only for Bill Bagron to make it 7-2 with a shorthanded empty netter. Aduba scored his second of the night from the doorstep in the final minute, but that goal had no impact on the outcome.
The Mallards, who will visit the Port Huron Icehawks on Saturday night, will next take to the ice at home on Wednesday, January 27 against Flint at 7:05 p.m. Fans attending the January 27 game will be able to enjoy $2 12-ounce drafts available at i wireless Center concession stands throughout that contest.
