
Blizzard nips Outlaws in overtime

(Mason City, IA) Scott Motz scored the game-winning goal 59 seconds into overtime, as the Alexandria Blizzard defeated the North Iowa Outlaws, 4-3 Friday night at the North Iowa Ice Arena. The goal was the ninth of the season for Motz, and came on an assist from Adam Hammerbeck.
The Blizzard came back from one-goal deficits three times in regulation, to force the overtime. Dan Swanson found the back of the net twice for the Blizzard (10-2-3 overall), while Ryan Shelafoe scored the fourth Alexandria goal.
The Outlaws lost, in spite of out-shooting the Blizzard 47-18 in the game. Brian Spring (Urbandale, IA) gave North Iowa a 1-0 lead in the opening period, on assists from Mike Wallgren (Oakdale, MN) and Mike Sand (Jeddo, MI), That line clicked again later in the period, to put North Iowa up, 2-1. Wallgren scored, while Sand and Spring earned the assists. Tied 2-2 entering the final period of regulation, Max Mobley (Glendale, AZ) gave the Outlaws a 3-2 advantage, with his fourth goal of the season. Steve McLeod (Atikokan, Ontario, Canada) and Patrick Dynan (Maple Plain, MN) assisted. Swanson's second goal of the night, with just over five minutes to go, tied the game.
The two teams will play again Saturday night, November 5th at the Runestone Center in Alexandria. Game time is set for 7:30. Radio broadcast coverage will be available in North Iowa, on Eagle Country, KY102.7 FM, with audio available on the internet, at www.northiowaoutlaws.com.
