Blizzard Bounce Back with 3-1 Win
November 25, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Brookings Blizzard News Release
The Saturday night contest against the Austin Bruins gave the Blizzard faithful something to cheer about.ÃâàIn what was a closer game than the score shows, Brookings took a 3-1 victory and gained two points in the standings.
Eric Brenk broke the scoring seal early in the first period off assists by Michele Marchetti and Jared Goudreau.ÃâàPeriod one also saw Beau Michaud lighting the lamp for the first time this season 19:36 into the game.ÃâÃÂ
Behind a strong goaltending performance by Drew Weigman, Austin was only able to capitalize on one of their 38 shots on goal.ÃâàWeigman put in a strong bid to improve his goals against average which was previously 2.98.
Despite being on the penalty kill six different times during the contest, Blizzard did not allow a goal while down a player.ÃâàPenalty kill as well as a strong offensive effort by Blizzard defenders (16 of 39 total shots) proved to be too much for the Bruins.Ãâà39 shots on goal is up from the Blizzard average this season of 29 shots per game.
The scoring summary included one goal each by Eric Brenk, Beau Michaud, and Evan Hesse.ÃâàHesse scored the final goal of the game in an empty net.ÃâàAssists came from Conor Andrle, Jared Goudreau, and Branislav Rapac, who chipped in one a piece.
Despite three penalties, the Bruins penalty kill did not allow any power play goals in the game.ÃâàAveraging 3.2 goals per game, the Bruins offense was slowed by the Blizzard, scoring on only one of their 38 shots on goal.
Leading the Bruins with the lone goal was Austin Nelson, who scored right away into the second period.ÃâàNelson's goal tallied the Bruins goals to 1, where it would remain for the rest of the game.ÃâàPicking up the assist was Jay Dickman.
Seven minor penalties gave the Blizzard 14 minutes in penalties throughout the contest.ÃâàStopping 36 of 39 Brookings shots was Austin goaltender Nicholas Lehr.ÃâàIncurring four minor penalties, the Bruins racked up 8 penalty minutes.
The Blizzard will resume play on Wednesday, Nov. 27th against the Aberdeen Wings.ÃâàGame pucks will be given to the first 300 fans through the door, courtesy of Dacotah Bank.
