Blitz Prepares for Home Opener

BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 16, 2002) – The Bakersfield Blitz of arenafootball2 are preparing this week for the first home game in team history Saturday night at the Centennial Garden in downtown Bakersfield. The Blitz is coming off a 52-32 road win over the Hawaiian Islanders in Honolulu last Saturday and is currently atop the National Conference Western Division at 2-0.

"It was a big win for us," said head coach James Fuller. "We went down to Hawaii to take care of business, and that's exactly what we did. Now we come home with a 2-0 record and we get to play in front of the home fans."

The Blitz' practice schedule for the week is as follows:

Tuesday: On field at 6:30 pm at the practice facility (Friendship House)

Wednesday: On field at 5:30 pm at the practice facility

Thursday: On field at 5:30 pm at the practice facility

Friday: To be determined (Depending on availability of arena)

The Bakersfield Blitz kicks off its home schedule this Saturday, April 20th at the Centennial Garden against the Louisville Fire. Kickoff is set for 7 pm with a pre-game tailgate party starting at 5 pm in front of the Garden.

Local band Mento Buru will play from 5 – 6:30 pm. There will also be hot dogs and hamburgers, beer and soda to drink, face painting and a bounce house for kids.

Tickets are now on sale at the Centennial Garden box office and all Ticketmaster locations. Prices for the home opener start at only $5. Season tickets are still available by calling 634-9132 or 1-866-GO-BLITZ.

More than two million fans have attended arenafootball2 games in the league's two-year history. In 2000, af2 began its inaugural season with 15 teams. The league expanded to 28 teams in 2001, and 34 this season, making it the fastest single-league expansion in the history of sports.
