
Blitz Assigned Four Players

Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 have announced that they have been assigned four players by the league office from the Wichita Stealth, and one player has been placed on reassignment from the Blitz.
Brian Goolsby, 27, is a second year player out of Kansas St. The fullback/linebacker spent last season with the Stealth and recorded eight rushing touchdowns. He ranked just outside of the top 10 in the af2 last season in rushing yards (135) and attempts (47). On the defensive side, Goolsby recorded 30 tackles, five sacks, a pair of blocked kicks and an interception.
John Hesse, 27, enters his third professional season as an offensive and defensive lineman. Although he played in just eight games last season, Hesse appeared in 14 games in 2002, when he made 20 tackles on defense. The 6'5", 285-pounder played college ball at Emporia State University in Kansas.
Darrell Jones, 29, also enters his third pro season. The wide receiver/linebacker out of Arkansas State played 15 games in each of the last two seasons with the Hawaiian Islanders, pulling in over 1,000 yards receiving and 18 touchdowns during that time. In 2002, Jones ranked in the top 10 in kick returns (50) and kick return yards (1,009). Defensively last season, he picked off four passes and made 32 tackles, 20 unassisted.
Pee Wee Woods, 29, is a fourth year defensive specialist out of Oklahoma. He spent two seasons with Quad City and split last year between Tulsa and Wichita. Last season, 30 of his 38 tackles were unassisted, while he also had one interception and two forced fumbles in just eight games. He has six career interceptions and 103 tackles in just 23 career games.
In other news, defensive specialist Eric Thigpen has been placed on reassignment. The Iowa grad played last season with Quad City in the af2, and is not expected to play this season. He was assigned to the Blitz on January 28th.
Former Blitz Sloth Graduates to AFL
Former Bakersfield Blitz wide receiver/defensive back Ryan Sloth will make his AFL debut tonight with the Columbus Destroyers, as they visit the Indiana Firebirds at 7:00pm (EDT).
Sloth has played three seasons in the af2, including every game in Blitz history. He played in 16 contests in each of the last two years, catching 132 passes for nearly 1,700 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also added four rushing touchdowns, one on kick returns and one fumble recovered for a touchdown. In 2001, he played every game for Iowa in the af2 as well.
