Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze traded the rights for OL AARON GIBSON (6-6, 370, Wisconsin) to the Dallas Desperados for OL DEVIN WYMAN (6-8, 335, Kentucky State) and future considerations today.
"Wyman can bring a lot to the table for us next season," said Blaze head coach and general manager DANNY WHITE. "He is a talented veteran who knows the game, and we are excited to have him on the line."
The Desperados acquired Wyman from Nashville via the San Jose Sabercats on October 6, 2005. Wyman has NFL experience as a defensive tackle and has played in 56 games through five AFL seasons, three with San Jose and two in Dallas. The newest member of the Blaze offense earned First-team All-Arena honors last season. Wyman was a sixth round pick by the New England Patriots in the 1996 NFL Draft and played with the 1998 Barcelona Dragons in NFL Europe.
The Blaze originally acquired the rights to Gibson in September after the Blaze traded the rights for QB ADRIAN MC PHERSON (6-3, 218, Florida State) to the Austin Wranglers for future considerations last November. The future considerations included the Blaze receiving two picks from the Wranglers' roster following the 2007 season, with Gibson being one of those picks.
In other AFL news, the free agency signing period for the upcoming 2008 season will begin on October 29. Teams will be allowed to contact free agents on Monday, October 15, with signing to begin on Monday, October 29. There are currently 208 AFL players available for free agency. Also, the AFL Board of Directors voted at its meeting in Chicago on Wednesday to extend the contract of Commissioner DAVID BAKER.
