Bakersfield, CA - They say everyone loves a winner, and right now, there's a lot to love at Sam Lynn Ballpark!
After dropping the middle two games of a four-game series with Stockton on July 13th and 14th , the Blaze haven't lost again. Starting with an extra-inning victory on the 15th , the Blaze have rattled off 9 consecutive wins, sweeping the struggling High Desert Mavericks before dealing a second sweep to the League-leading San Jose Giants.
As of this moment, the Blaze have also posted 2 straight wins in Stockton, including a thrilling 9th-inning come-from-behind win last night. The team has catapulted itself from last place back into the lead for the Wild Card playoff berth, and Bakersfield sits just 4 games behind Stockton for the 2nd half division lead.
If that wasn't impressive enough, courtesy of a handful of monster individual performances, the Blaze have also swept the July 24th Player of the Week awards in the California League, with infielder Brodie Greene and starting pitcher Curtis Partch hoisting the two trophies. Greene went an unbelievable 12-for-26 this past week, and over the last 10 games, the pride of Texas A&M has smashed 6 homers and driven in 14 runs. Not to be outdone, Partch tossed a complete-game 6-hitter against the vaunted San Jose Giants, his League-leading second complete game of 2011.
The Blaze are red hot, and the rapidly growing crowds at Sam Lynn are enjoying every minute of it. The Blaze return from the road on July 31st for a 7-game homestand that features the team's host of weekly blowout promotions. Monday is a Dollar Day, where tickets and hot dogs are just a buck, Thursday features half-price beer, and Friday is a Fireworks Show for all those fans that missed out on the Independence Day spectacular.
The Bakersfield Blaze is a charter member of the California League, and the Class-A Advanced Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
