August 25, 2009 - The Chicago Blaze are proud to announce the signing of professional goaltender Adam Dekker. Terms of the contract are not released. The 25 year old Dekker comes to Chicago with AA experience after playing last year with the Flint Generals in the IHL. Prior to that Adam has played for Wichita in the Central League and with Richmond in the Southern Pro League.
Dekker, who at 6' 5", 205 is a physical presence and with his pro experience is the right fit to backstop this team. The Muskegon, Michigan native is an NCAA graduate having played hockey for 4 seasons at Utica College in New York. About the projected number one goaltender, team owner Aaron Mattey states, "This year we wanted to build out team from the net out and demonstrate to our players and fans that while we want an exciting brand of hockey, defense is important. Finding someone of Adams' quality, experience and physical size makes us confident about starting the season with a strong presence in net. Everyone gets confidence from that."
Adam and the other Blaze players to take to the ice on October 12th as training camp officially opens at West Meadows Arena with times to be announced soon.
All sessions are free and open to the public who may purchase the season tickets at the arena box office or online.
