Blaze Re-Sign Quarterback

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze announced today the re-signing of QB Mark Thorson (6-6, 245, Western Oregon). Terms of the contract were not disclosed per team policy.

"Thorson came in halfway through the season and really became an all-around contributor," said Blaze Head Coach Ron James. "He showed a lot of potential and we look forward to seeing him grow into the player we think he can be this upcoming season."

Last season with the Blaze, Thorson played in eight games where he completed 52-of-90 passing for 577 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also made an appearance at jack linebacker where he tallied 2.0 total tackles.

In 2009, Thorson spent the season with the Boise Burn of the af2 where he appeared in four games going 17-of-31 passing for 165 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Thorson played collegiately for the Western Oregon Wolves where he spent his final three years as the starter and appeared in games as a freshman. In 2007, he completed 195-of-327 passing for 24 touchdowns and 2,316 yards. In 2006, he completed 179-of-307 passing for a total of 2,342 yards and 20 touchdowns. In 2005, he was 186-of-339 passing, throwing for 1,916 yards and 16 touchdowns. As a freshman in 2004, Thorson appeared in three games and was 8-of-14 passing. One of his primary targets while at Western Oregon was Kevin Boss who is now a tight end for the New York Giants of the NFL. The Blaze will have the exclusive rights to resign players from the 2010 team until September 19th. The free agency period will begin on September 20th, in which all players will be eligible to sign with any team.
