Blaze Re-Sign Joe Germaine To A Five-Year Contract

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze announce the re-signing of quarterback JOE GERMAINE (6-2, 220, Ohio State) to a five-year contract. today This deal secures him with the Blaze through 2012 and makes Germaine the first player in AFL history to ink a five-year contract. Terms of the contract were not disclosed due to team policy.

"Joe has been a key player and leader for this team since its inception," said Blaze head coach and general manager DANNY WHITE, "We are thrilled to have him back for another five seasons."

The former Rose Bowl MVP finished the 2007 regular season by leading the AFL in completions (422) and passing yards (5,005), while finishing No. 2 in touchdown passes (107) and attempts (617). He also averaged 312.8 passing yards per game.

During the 2007 season, Germaine surpassed San Jose SaberCats QB MARK GRIEB's record of 4,841 passing yards set in 2006. Germaine reached 5,000 yards during the last game of the regular season when he connected with WR TOM PACE on a 10-yard pass with just over one minute remaining in the team's 47-37 victory over the Los Angeles Avengers.

The Blaze will begin training camp on February 7, and practices will be held at the Spence Eccles Field House and SportsPlex in Kaysville, UT. Practices will run from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and from 3-5 p.m. for the first week of camp.
