July 11, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Atlanta Blaze News Release

The Atlanta Blaze (4-3) were unable to secure the victory in a back-and-forth game against the Denver Outlaws (6-1) at Broncos Stadium. The game was filled with excitement and both offenses were flowing en route to 35 total points being scored.

Midfielder Christian Mazzone paced the Blaze offense with two brilliant goals early, but the Blaze were outscored 11-7 in the first half. Atlanta would continue to fight back, gaining the lead late in the third quarter and again in the fourth quarter.

Attackman Randy Staats returned with some flashy assists and gritty finishes around the crease, finishing with three goals and three assists. He added some highlight assists to Brendan Sunday who had a four-goal, one assist effort on the night.

Both teams found themselves tied late in the fourth quarter when a two-point goal from Andrew Newbold put the Outlaws ahead 17-15. The Outlaws finished with two two-point goals in the game.

The Blaze stayed resilient, responding with a quick transition goal from Shayne Jackson, his 19th of the year. With 2:40 left in the fourth quarter, Tommy Palasek found Sunday in open space for a goal to tie the game at 17-17.

Denver midfielder Zach Currier, who has notched multiple points in every game in his MLL career, was held scoreless until he corralled and netted a rebound off the cage with 0:03 left on the game clock. Currier's goal would seal the 17-18 loss for the Blaze.

Chris Madalon added another 17 saves to his league-leading save total and Max Edelmann had one save in limited playing time. Blaze defender Leo Stouros also scored and caused a turnover on the afternoon.

The Blaze will be traveling home to Grady Stadium to take on the Boston Cannons (4-2) in an 8 PM Saturday night matchup.
