
Blaze Bounce Back with Win over Rush

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union, bounced back from Friday's opening loss with a 5-2 win over the Rapid City Rush on Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The Blaze scored first as Nicklas Lindberg struck a sharp angle attack into the upper right corner for a power play goal with 4:40 left in the opening period, assisted by Nicholas Rioux and Jon Booras.
Bloomington added an early second period tally when Travis Granbois poked a loose puck in the crease into the net just 1:39 into the middle chapter to increase the lead to 2-0. Ryan Palmer blasted a low shot from the slot with 13:48 left of the second on the power play, assisted by Sebastien Trudeau and Jared Walker, to give the Blaze a 3-0 lead. Lindberg tallied his second goal of the night with just 1:26 remaining in the second on an open look in the deep slot when Booras forced an errant Rush clearance to give the Blaze a 4-0 lead going into the second intermission.
The Rush finally dented the scoreboard just 1:09 into the third period when Jarrett Konkle drove a low shot stick side from the top of the left circle assisted by John Snowden. Granbois answered for the Blaze with 7:39 remaining after taking a pass from Nicholas Rioux as Granbois left the penalty box and pushed in a shot from the top of the crease. Rapid City quickly cut their deficit back to 5-2 with with 6:31 left when Damien Surma drove a shot from the left circle, assisted by John Snowden and Michael Couch.
Pier-Olivier Pelletier earned the win in net with 33 saves, while Neil Conway took the loss with 38 saves.
The Blaze return to action next Friday and Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Wichita Thunder. The Junior Blaze will conclude this weekend's action with an 11 a.m. face-off tomorrow (Sunday) against the Michigan Ice Dogs at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
