Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze have been assigned defensive back Bobby Seay, the team announced Thursday. Seay practiced with the team on Tuesday and Wednesday via a pair of one-day waivers. The coaching staff saw enough in those two days to reward Seay with a contract.
"It wasn't easy for Bobby Seay to earn a roster spot," said President & Head Coach Ron James. "He had to come in as a waiver player and do it the hard way. We're really looking forward to seeing what he can do with more training camp experience. He's a very athletic player with great cover skills."
Seay (5-11, 195, Central Michigan) originally worked out for the Blaze in a private setting last November. The coaching staff was impressed by how quickly he was able to grasp the indoor concepts, and invited him to participate in training camp. Seay quickly solidified his status as a contract-worthy player and joined wide receiver Chad Rusinkovich as the second "two-day" prospect Utah has signed this week.
"God has blessed me with a tremendous opportunity. I've been waiting for a chance like this since I graduated from Central Michigan," said Seay. "Hopefully I can continue to learn this game and keep getting better every day. Coach Brown has been an amazing teacher."
Seay played in 49 games as a safety during his collegiate career at Central Michigan University. As a senior in 2010, he started seven games and delivered 44 tackles, a two-yard tackle for loss, one pass breakup and one interception.
