Blast to Open with Tobacco Free Event

INDIANAPOLIS-The Indiana Blast open their season at home against the Milwaukee Rampage this Friday, May 3rd at 11:00am with their second annual TOBACCO FREE event. Several schools throughout central Indiana have partnered up with the Blast to teach kids about the dangers of tobacco and the positives of staying tobacco free. Several of the students submitted essays on why they want to stay tobacco free. In return, the Blast has given out several hundred tickets to these students for Friday's event at Kuntz Memorial Stadium located at 1502 West 16th Street. The governor's wife, Judy O'Bannon, will be helping with the coin toss and the players from both teams will be congratulating the students for their pledge to be tobacco free.

UPCOMING MATCHES-The Blast have taken the last 10 days to prepare for their upcoming three game home streak starting Friday, May 3rd at 11:00am. The Blast will then play the Portland Timbers at home on Friday, May 10th at 7:35pm and then against the Minnesota Thunder on Friday, May 17th at 7:35pm. All games are played at Kuntz Memorial Stadium.

THIS WEEK-After taking the weekend off the Blast are back at practice the entire week at Cumberland Park in Fishers. Training sessions are open to both the public and the media. Contact the MorSports, Inc. office to confirm training sites and times.

RECENT SIGNINGS-The Blast have recently come to terms with 19-year-old local Paul Dolinsky from Carmel, IN. The 5'8" 150-pound midfielder most recently played with S.C. Heerenveen of the Holland First Division. The Blast also welcome 6'3" 205-pound central midfielder Jeremy Sweet to this year's lineup. Sweet spent the '01 season with the Seattle Sounders. Former French Division III player Eric Rue will be joining the Blast for the 2002 season. The 29-year-old defender is an former teammate of head coach Eric Descombes.

LUNCH WITH A KICK-Make plans for an extended lunch hour on Friday, May 3rd when the Blast kick off at 11:00am against the Milwaukee Rampage. Bring your co-workers out, kick back, and enjoy the day as Indiana's only professional soccer team takes the field for the first time at home in the 2002 season.

INDY 500 NIGHT-The Blast are home again on Friday, May 10th against Portland at 7:35pm. It's Brickyard Crossing/Indy 500 night with special appearances and autograph sessions with Indy car drivers Sarah Fisher and Billy Boat. Gates will be open at 6:30om.
