Blast to Hit the Big Screen

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-The Indiana Blast and Fox Sports World officially announced last Thursday the 2002 inaugural LIVE broadcast of a Blast home game. As part of the United Soccer League's (USL) new five-year partnership with Fox Sports International, the Blast will have one game broadcasted on Fox Sports World this season.

The Blast LIVE broadcast on Fox Sports World will be on Saturday, August 17th at 7:05pm when they face the defending A-League Champions the Rochester Rhinos. With the live broadcast and Camp Reunion night on this same evening, it promises to be an exciting and packed house at Kuntz stadium.

"We are thrilled about this opportunity and the chance to broadcast the exciting Blast game experience across the entire nation," said Djorn Buchholz, director of Operations/Media Relations. "Our organization is gaining recognition on a national level and this is one more avenue that will help that growth."

The USL national television schedule includes 18 season matches, two A-League play-off games, and the A-League Championship game.

All broadcast and digital media rights to USL are held by Sportsio, who will be responsible for the production of all games. The agreement between Sportsio and Fox Sports International begins with the 2002 season and ends on December 31, 2006, with more than 100 games to be televised.

The Blast battled Butler University to a 1-1 tie on Thursday in Greenfield. Rodrigo Costa scored the only goal for the Blast on an assist from player/coach Eric Descombes.

In Lebanon on Sunday the Blast defeated Ohio State 1-0. Rodrigo Costa sent a ball across the box in the first half that found the head of Godfrey Tenoff for the only score of the game.

The Blast open the season this weekend as they hit the road for a double header making their first stop in Charlotte Friday evening and their second in Atlanta on Saturday.
