Indiana Blast News Release
INDIANAPOLIS- The Indiana Blast (0-3-1, 1 pt) tied the El Paso Patriots (1-0-2, 3 pts) 2-2 Friday night at Kuntz Stadium in front of a record season-opening crowd of 3,987. "Freebie Friday" was a huge success, where fans got in free to see the Blast home opener. One of the newest additions to the Blast roster, Semir Mesanovic, shined scoring the first goal of the season for the Blast and added an assist on Michael Mucino's goal.
El Paso started the scoring in the 17th minute. Jose Lomeli curled a pass in from 35 yards out that bounced in front of Blast goalkeeper Paul Rogers and Carlos Martinez. Martinez flicked the ball just enough to trickle past Rogers and into the goal.
Canadian U-20 National Teamer Semir Mesanovic scored his first goal of the season when he gathered a pass from Godfrey Tenoff and slid a shot between the legs of El Paso keeper Omar Carera in the 26th minute.
Mesanovic returned the favor to Michael Mucino in the 49th minute. Mesanovic sent a laser into the box that Mucino was able to finish on a spectacular diving header.
El Paso scored the equalizer in the 76th minute. Substitute Tim Pierce corralled the ball when the Blast keeper was not able to control a deflected pass. Pierce turned and fired a strike into the back of the net.
With two minutes left in the final overtime, the draw was preserved when the diving Paul Rogers stopped Jose Lomeli's point-blank shot.
The Blast's next home game will be Friday, May 16th against the Cincinnati Riverhawks at 7:35 pm at Kuntz Stadium. It's "High School and College Student Night". Students will receive 2-for-1 admission by showing their student ID. Gates will open at 6:30pm.
