Indiana Blast News Release
INDIANAPOLISâThe Indiana Blast (0-3) fell short by a score of 2-3 in a double overtime matchup against the Milwaukee Rampage this morning at Kuntz Stadium.
Milwaukee's first chance came in the 19th minute when Miguel Saavedra split two Blast defenders and took a point-blank shot on goal. Blast Goalkeeper Mark Spears smothered the shot.
The Blast played solid defense through the first 40 minutes of the match, but a giveaway at midfield led to the first goal. Saavedra took a shot that was blocked by Takawira starting a scramble in the box. Steve Bernal cleaned up the mess to make the score 1-0.
Indiana got on the board when Paul Dolinsky sent a free kick into the box. The ball bounced off a Rampage defender and landed on Rodrigo Costa, who from his back shot it on goal were Godfrey Tenoff finished.
The second half was a midfield battle as both teams had trouble on offense. That all changed in the 73rd minute when Godfrey Tenoff found Costa who blasted a shot to the far corner past Milwaukee goalkeeper Dan Popik.
Milwaukee equalized the score just four minutes later. John Wolyniec sent a pass to Matt Bobo who blew past a Blast defender and placed his shot just out of the reach of Spears, tying the match 2-2.
In the first golden goal overtime, both teams had several opportunities to put the game away but neither team did. In the 103rd minute of the game a rampage player was fouled just outside of the Blast penalty box. Former Blast player Jeremy Aldrich took the free kick, deflecting it off of the Blast wall and into the goal to end the game.
The Blast's next home game will be May 10th against the Portland Timbers at 7:35 pm. It's Indy 500 night with special autograph sessions by Billy Boat and Sarah Fisher. Gates will open at 6:30pm.
