Philadelphia KiXX News Release

Philadelphia, PA - The defending MISL Champion Philadelphia KiXX (7-10) lost their second game of the weekend to the Baltimore Blast (8-7) in front of 8.044 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum on John Barry Nusum Bobble Head Night. The Blast were seeking revenge after a 4-0 shut out at the hands of Peter Pappas and the KiXX on January 5. Pappas did not dress for the game after suffering a neck injury in the KiXX January 18 loss to Chicago. Nick Hovaker, a native of Pasadena, MD, was thrust into the starting role, the first of the 24-year olds career. Baltimore now holds a two-game lead on the KiXX in the battle for the final playoff spot.

Baltimore began scoring when Machel Millwood tallied his ninth of the season, set up from player/assistant coach David Bascome. Sammy Castellanos tied the game up for the KiXX after a shot from Ptah Myers with just 26 seconds left in the first quarter.

Millwood returned the favor 7:27 into the second quarter, assisting Bascome for his seventh of the season, giving the Blast a 4-2 lead. After a Jonathan Steele tripping penalty on Baltimore's Denison Cabral, Cabral capitalized for his team-leading 13th goal of the season, putting the Blast up 6-2 headed into halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Carlos Garcia began the fourth with his sixth of the season set up again by Millwood, his second assist of the evening. Tony Donatelli's team-leading 10th goal of the season brought the KiXX to within four points, 8-4. The goal was unassisted. Back-to-back goals from the Blast by Bascome and Garcia, the second goal of the night for each, put the Blast up 12-4. Jonathan Steele's fourth of the season, set-up by KiXX captain Pat Morris, would round out scoring, 12-6.

Notes: Jonathan Steele's two-point goal was the 50th point of the Ireland native's four-year career.
