Blast Announce Date of 2003 College Draft

December 5, 2002 - A-League (A-League)
Indiana Blast News Release

INDIANAPOLIS-United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced today that it will conduct its annual College Draft prior to the holiday season via conference call on December 18. The Blast will have the third pick overall in the draft.

The 2003 A-League College Draft procedures have changed from years past. The draft will be comprised of two rounds, eliminating the Territorial Round, which previously gave teams the first opportunity to draft outstanding collegiate players in their region. Since most teams in the A-league generally draft region wide there is no need for the Territorial Round. Elimination of the Territorial Round also allows the draft process to be consistent with that of other professional sports in the US.

"We have a couple quality players in mind for our two picks this year," said Blast Head Coach Jimmy McDonald. "With the third overall pick, we are sure to get one of them and hopefully both."

An expansion team, Syracuse, will draft first in both rounds. Both rounds will go in reverse order of the 2002 A-League regular season standings.
