Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced today that defenseman Kyle Peto has signed a contract for the 2008-09 season, thus becoming the first player signed by the Everblades for the upcoming season.
Peto (PEE-toe) joins the Everblades after playing the 2007-08 season in England with the Basingstoke Bison where he registered 22 points (2g, 20a) in 39 games. The 25-year-old finished second among Bison defenseman with his 20 assists and third among all Basingstoke defenseman in scoring.
Prior to heading to England, the Lethbridge, Alberta native won a Kelly Cup Championship with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL in 2006-07 by finishing off the regular season with 21 points (8g, 13a) in 47 games and skating in 10 Kelly Cup Playoff games. Peto began the 2006-07 campaign overseas in Finland with KalPa Kuopio where he saw action in 19 games, collecting three assists before heading to Idaho in January.
"We're very excited to have Kyle joining our club for the upcoming season." Cameron said. "He won a Kelly Cup in Idaho a couple seasons ago and that kind of experience is immeasurable and something you can't teach players. Kyle brings to the team the kind of qualities I'm looking for, he moves the puck very well, has quick feet and is extremely cool under pressure."
Before turning pro in the '06-'07 season, the 6-foot, 190 pound blue liner spent four seasons at the collegiate level with Minnesota State University - Mankato. His senior season in 2005-06 was Peto's best after notching a college career high eight goals and adding 21 assists for a career high 29 points in 38 games. Over his four-year career with the Mavericks, Peto saw action in 111 games, registering 78 points (14g, 64a) and 152 penalty minutes.
