Blades Knock Off Pats

The Saskatoon Blades improved their home record to 10-4-0 this season with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Regina Pats on Wednesday night.

After giving up the games first two goals off the sticks of Brett Leffler and Rudolph Cerveny, the Blades put on their rally hats and scored three unanswered goals. Mike Reich started off the Blades scoring on the power play mid way through the 1st period while Walker Wintoneak scored his 6th goal of the season at the 9:05 mark of the 2nd period, eventually forcing the game to overtime.

In OT, the Blades wasted no time sending their fans home happy. With Sam Klassen and Tim Kraus serving coincidental penalties, the Blades and Pats played 22 seconds of 3 on 3 pond hockey before Teigan Zahn notched his first career goal at the most opportunistic time.

The Blades special teams were once again strong on this night, capitalizing once on 5 power plays while their penalty kill was a perfect 3 for 3. Braden Holtby made 21 saves on 23 shots while Linden Rowat took the loss between the pipes for the Pats, allowing 3 goals on 31 shots.

The Blades next and final home game before the Christmas Break goes this Saturday night. The game is Global TV Toque Toss Night where fans are encouraged to bring toques, scarves, and mittens to the game and, when the Blades score their first goal, let 'em fly!
